Twenty years after introducing the Bee collection, La Rochère returns to the motif with new color and a deeper reference to the symbol's origins.

The Bee and Its History

The bee emblem carried by these tumblers traces directly to the Carnavalet Museum in Paris, where original bee icons from French royal history are preserved. This was not decorative imagery chosen for its appeal. The bee marked royal fabrics, drapes, rugs, and furniture across centuries of French court culture before La Rochère translated it into glass. The Carnavalet connection gives this edition an authenticated provenance that separates it from pattern glassware produced without historical grounding.

Color and Inspiration

The golden Moroccan blue backdrop of this edition draws from the Mediterranean and Provence, a chromatic reference to the southern French landscape and its relationship with North African light and color. The assorted set delivers variation across four tumblers, each carrying the same embossed bee against the distinctive blue ground. The palette is warm without being casual, specific without being seasonal.

The Tumbler Form

The tumbler format broadens what these glasses serve. Wine, water, a short cocktail, a digestif poured neat — the form accommodates all of it without the formality of a stemmed glass. For entertaining that moves between courses and drink types, the Bee Tumbler handles the transitions naturally. The assorted nature of the set means four distinct expressions of the same motif arrive together, a considered choice for a table that rewards close attention.

Five Centuries of French Production

La Rochère has operated continuously in Passavant-la-Rochère since 1475, making it France's oldest active glassware manufacturer. This edition marks over two decades since the Bee collection's introduction, with the Mediterranean color story representing the manufacturer's first significant chromatic evolution of the line. Hand washing preserves both the embossed detail and the integrity of the colored finish.

Selected for the depth of its historical reference, the specificity of its color inspiration, and the versatility of a tumbler format that serves serious entertaining without demanding ceremony.
